The volunteer position is designed to give prospective students a broad view of the clinical areas of rehabilitation. The commitment is for four hours per week for a total of ten to twelve weeks. During the weekly four hours, half of the time will be spent observing a variety of rehabilitative evaluations and treatments with a licensed therapist. The other half of the time will be performing various tasks under department supervision. Such tasks might include assisting the therapists or office staff with departmental projects, cleaning, and/or stocking supplies. At this time, we can only take volunteers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Please contact Ken in our department, (415) 353-1756 if interested. Potential volunteers will complete a questionnaire and be placed on the volunteer waiting list. You will be contacted for an interview when a position becomes available. There is usually a nine month to one year wait to begin our volunteer program. We strongly recommend that you consider other volunteer programs as well.

Prior to beginning a session, potential volunteers must complete the requirements of the general UCSF Volunteer Program that includes a health clearance and completion of a general orientation program. More information about the hospital requirements can be obtained by calling the UCSF Medical Center Volunteer Department at (415) 353-1196.
